I made this painting for The Strange Dreams Surreal Art collectives online exhibition “Wings”. I have called it “Drawn to Water” it is oil on wood and the size is 26 x 20 cm (10 x 8 inches).
I wanted to concentrate on the structure of the dragonflies wings so I decided to play with the focus of the background so that the wings would really stand out.
I took some reference photos in my garden to try and determine what the Depth of field should be. Here is an example of one of them. Then I took some artistic liberties.
